Which Super Eagles Team Is Your All-time Best?

I think the USA '94' team was and is still Nigeria's best.

It will take us time to build such a team again.

There is only one team that can win this.

Take a bow Super Eagles class of 1994.

Very few teams have played with such skill, strength, panache, passion and confidence.

Everybody playing against us FEARED us!

Never have my Eagles filled me with such confidence than in 1994. We went into every match KNOWING that we would win no matter who the opponents were!

Eagles of 2000?

HELL NO!

Maroc 88 Eagles were a joy to watch as well but your heart was always in your mouth.

This would never happen with the 1994 team.

U.S.A 94 Team still remains the best ever. A team that could afford to bench D Prince of Monaco(Victor Ikpeba), Efan Ikoku, Jay Okocha, Mike Emenalo etc; a Super Eagles team that had another Super Eagles team as bench.

Or is it in terms of discipline, team spirit, commitment, experience, skill? They had it all

@ Sharon, the 2000 boyz were good too but comparatively 94 team remains unrivalled. Maybe u should draw a table of both teams and compare them player for player/ wing for wing. Isnt the difference just clear?

I think we are over looking the Dream Team 1

Maybe because they were not called Super Eagles then

But you know that they were a fall out of the USA 94 squad

Okocha, Siasia, etc

while most of them formed the nucleus of the 2000 team

Only God knows what Bora Milutinovic did with these bunch of stars in 1998 . . . . . .

He and the silly Nazi coach where bad news to the national side. . . . they are the worst to have handled our national side

even Ladan Bosso is better

Can we still build a team as strong as the 94 side? Maybe the dream team 4 can be as good if they can imbibe the discipline and guile of the 94 side

And the creativity and depth of the 2000 side. . . . .

or even the guys that won in Korea. . .

But all in all, the 1994 squad holds it for me. . . .inexperience and politics killed us off in the world cup

The '94 team is the best in my opinion. Even leading to the nations cup, they were invincible. I always pity our opponents. It was a sad day when they lost in the world cup. That team worked like a well oiled machine. However, I felt the initial successes inn the world cup got into their head and everyone wanted to outshine others. In fact, I felt Yekini was starved of balls he could have scored,

All in all, I doff my hat for the great '94 squad.

The best Super Eagles team is either the Tunisia 1994 or Ghana/Nigeria 2000 teams.

The two are just too good its hard to make a decision.

tkb,

Yes the 78-80 team missed the world cup.

But they won the first Nations Cup for Naija.

You have to reckon with them and what they achieved.I'm using results as a tool.

I believe they were good.Even better than 2000.

Furo Iyenemi(almost scored an own goal against Cameroun in the final CAN2000),Chukwu Ndukwe(Mr. Miss-it)

Washed up Celestine Babayaro (messed up in the final by Lauren Etame)

Benedict Akwuegbu (Mr. I can't get into the 18-yard box to even score)

Those guys can't stand near the class of 94.

Okocha wasn't even a regular in 94.

Even in soccer forums and analyses around the world, Nigeria's 94 team's feat is still being easily quoted as a reference point in good football. Ghanaians and Liberians easily tell us in their soccer forums that '' we are talking about your current Super Chickens, not your 94 team".

In Bigsoccer forum, Nigeria's 94 team, alongside Cameroun's 90 and Senegal 2002, were listed among the TOP 5 African WC team of all time.

This team was just too much!!!

0

Unquestionably the 94 side.

yes o. rashidi yekini was the greatest culprit on that day

70-80 eagles didnt go to the world cup!

0
Avatar

Unquestionably the 94 side.

Let's use facts and figures.

The 1994 team went to the World Cup and were eliminated by Baggio's wizardry. They had won the Nations Cup in Tunisia, proving that they were by far the best, technically and skill-wise in Africa. On their way to the World Cup & Nations Cup,they made National stadium a fortress:Beat Cote d'Ivoire&Algeria4-1 each(World Cup Qualifiers).Didn't concede a goal at the tournament till the Semi-Final against Cote d'Ivoire.

The 2000 squad couldn't even win the nations cup in their backyard. They had to claw their way back from 2-nil against Cameroun, and couldn't find that extra thing to win the game before the lottery of the penalty shoot-out.You might say we beat Cote d'Ivoire on the same penalty shoot out in CAN94 semi, but we dominated that game and missed a hatful of chances.

Before Cameroun,Senegal made us sweat. At the same National Stadium.

There really isn't any basis for comparison between the two teams. If there is a team that can lay claim as the greatest,it's the 78-80 Green Eagles.

This is your brilliant post ever. . . . . .

I thunk i was the only one that noticed the potentials in the 2000 team.

A lot of us get carried away with the trophy but if that 2000 team had been managed properly. . . .They wlda gone far in Japan/Korea.

It is still Nigeria's most balanced side. TJ Babangida, Olisheh, Kanu, Agahowa, Ikpeba, Babayaro.

I think he's a bit mixed up about the USA '94 side and the Atlanta (also USA) '96 side.

USA 94 was definitely the best in terms of discipline, footballing genius and team unity.

The 2000 team is arguably as good in terms of genius, and even better in talent I think, but lack of preparedness killed that side.

No chance.

Kanu did not even make the squad to both Tunisia and America. He made

his debut I think against Sweden before the world cup but he did not make

the squad.

Jay Jay was not super regular. I think he started only the Italy game at the

world cup.

My best team is the 1980 squad even though I was quite young then.

I love the central defensive pairing of Christian Chukwu and Tunde

Bamidele. Muda Lawal was awesome in the holding midfield role and

we were flying in the wings. Felix Owolabi and Segun Odegbami were

impeccable.

Another reason why i liked that team was that anyone could pop up

and score. If you mark out Owolabi, Segun Odegbami would pop up

or even Muda Lawal like he did to get the 3rd goal in the finals against

Algeria.

The Eagles of 94 were perhaps the best team ever assembled in the history of Nigerian football. Remember it was a team that started it's build up from 1990, when they won silver against all odds at the nations cup in Algeria. By Senegal 92, the team met a formidable foe in a Ghana squad that boasted names like Tony Yeboah, Abedi Pele, Nii Lamptey etc and we got knocked out for third place. But their day was stil to come.

Prior to their 94 world cup heroics, they had actually won the nations cup in Tunisia in style, whetting appetites with their masterful display of total football. their dominance of African football was to such an extent that it was already assumed that retaining the crown in SA 96 was a given, pity, the 'dark goggled' one spoilt that fun for everyone. That team produced the fragments of future national teams who tried in vain to fill the oversized boots left by Westerhof's boys.

Trust the big Dutch to wield the big stick on any erring player. An important factor to note about the team was their discipline and commitment to playing good football, they all played for each other and aside the politics which reared itself in USA, might have even played the final world cup game.

What is Sauron talking about?. . . . 2000 team was a joke. . . . did we not start Chukwu in the final? . . . . what is the name of that Ijaw boy that used to play centre-back? . . . . Furo Iyenemi, abi something like that. . . what a joke . . . that team was rubbish.

No doubt 1994 was the best team. Amuneke and Finidi on both wings can never be surpassed. Westerhof said that those boys were so fit, there was no need for a second defensive midfielder alongside Oliseh. The amount of work that Finidi and Amuneke did both defensively and offensively meant that the defensive frailty of Okocha was nuanced. Not to mention that The Bull was pressing defenders so hard up the pitch, they couldn't venture forward to put pressure on our somewhat light central midfield.

They were able to beat SUPER by funny tactics and referree helps

because eagles were taking everyone including Joao Havelange by surprise.

The Team '94 is to be remenbered forever.
