Nowadays it is getting common for footballers to become Nollywood actors, or even producers and song writers, during or sometimes after their playing careers.
This interesting adventure has already become a huge success for such legends as Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo. It may seem strange, but for handsome, young, sportsmen, even without any special talent, are always very attractive for producers.
However acting in movies has already improved a career of some Nigerian footballers too. Here is a list of five players who has become pretty well actors.
1. Emmanuel Babayaro
He is a former goalkeeper of Dream Team, whose name is Emmanuel Babayaro, have already tried his skills in acting. He is a gold medalist, 39-year-old man, who has produced and also stared in numerous Nollywood movies, including such as Taking Chances, Fantastic Fanatics, Growing Up and You Are My Sunshine.
2. John Utaka
Former winger of Super Eagles, John Utaka, had his debut role in 2013, in a film called, ‘Battered’, with Fatima Jabbe, a beautiful multi-award winning actress. Utaka, who is 36 years old right now, currently plays for Egypt Ismaily, after his successful career in Europe, and also 12 years with the Eagles, decided to try himself in movie industry.
3. Osaze Odemwingie
Osaze Odemwingie had his cameo appearance in 2005 in one of popular Babayaro’s movies, called ‘Growing Up’. And ever since, Osaze Odemwingie, who is the former Super Eagles striker, concentrated on his football career, thanks to what he had 63 appearances for his Super Eagles team, as well as working for a few top European sides such as, West Brom, Stoke City and Cardiff.
4. Ogenyi Onazi
For Ogenyi Onazi, all that counts is the humorous and funny side of life. The midfielder, who is known for his ribs cracking viral scenes, especially when he was in the Super Eagles camp, is very famous person. Once he even imitated the conductor and tried to convince some passengers in his car smooth and even started the tomato business, given its scarce nature of Nigeria.
5. Obafemi Martins
Just like his friend Odemwingie, Obafemi Martins also stared in popular ‘Growing Up’, which was liked by Chioma Chukwuka, Yemi Blaq and Basorge Tariah. Obafemi Martins, who currently plays for the Chinese team, which is called Shanghai Shenhua, has not played in any films any more. However he is constantly invited to different local movies and soap operas.
