Have you ever wondered who are the richest women of Nigeria an what do they do? Let’s have a closer look at these women together in the article below.
Even though in general the population of Nigeria lives beyond the world’s average daily income, Nigeria is a home to a group of people whose possessions are countless. They are called tycoons or magnates. However, among them there are a few preachers, bankers and bank owners.
The Naij website has recently published an article with a short list of women who not only earned more than a billion but also own at least one airplane for their personal needs. That is a luxury not everyone can afford!
So here we go. The first woman on this list is Folorunsho Alakija with more than $3 billion of wealth on her banking account as well as an estimated value of her possessions. To make sure you realize the scale of her wealth and professional success, I will add that according to the Forbes Folorunsho Alakija is believed to be second richest and most successful woman in Africa as well as 87th in the whole world! Pretty amazing, isn’t it?
However, two years ago, Forbes rated her as the 96th richest woman. Thus, her business is growing and developing making her richer year after year. She is called the queen of three industries: fashion, printing and oil industry.
However, business is not her only interest. She has spent much money to help those in need. Thus, her foundation helps widows and orphans and not just helps but promotes their careers and education by providing various grants and scholarships. She is also a mother of four sons and a wife of a famous lawyer.
Let’s move on to the next woman on our list. The other woman billionaire on our list is Diezani Alison-Madueke. She is a Nigerian woman and tops the list of the richest women coming from Nigeria. She has a long list of “Firsts” as her background. She was the first woman appointed to the position of Minister of Transportation as well as the first woman to head the Petroleum Ministry in Nigeria.
Diezani Alison-Madueke also mentored a whole generation of women that wanted to achieve success in politics or business which are basically male-dominated in Nigeria. Her main focus was that women need to change their way of thinking when working with men, as their emotions block their ability to collaborate with men.
Despite all the achievements and heights she mastered, in 2015 she was arrested while on her visit to the United Kingdom. Diezani Alison-Madueke was taken into custody and her house was sealed till the end of investigation. She was accused of bribery and corruption.
The next richest woman of Nigeria is a fashion guru. Her name is Bola Shagaya, and she is 57. She is a mother of four and married to one of the Nigerian magnates. However, she has wealth of her own.
She first started with working at the Central Bank of Nigeria, later proceeded to working in the photographic industry. And only later she shifted to fashion and managing the oil plant. She is believed to be one of the Top 10 Richest Women of Nigeria.
The next woman was lucky to get married to one of the richest man in Nigeria. Her name is Daisy Danjuma and she is married to General Theophilus Danjuma. Marriage must be a happy one, as on one of the anniversary she got a personal jet as a gift from a grateful husband.
Daisy Danjuma worked at the Senate where she focused on promoting Women and Children’s Rights as well as Youth initiative.
So as you see, Nigeria has a number of people that live far better than billions of other people in the world. Not all of them made that fortune in an honest way. However, some did and even use them for supporting those in need.
And these are only women. We definitely have many more men on the list of richest people in the world. However, this is the topic for our next article. Check out more news on our website!
