Lagos.Abuja. They are both centers. I've lived in both 2 be able 2 say facts. Abuja is d Political/Nigerian Capital. But Lagos is d Commercial Capital. Lag is where d port is evrything dat is imported 2 Abuja.Anything imported either comes 4rm lagos or Port harcort. Abuja is land-locked.Dats y d companies/manufacturers,ar in lagos.Hw many Manufacturin company can stay in Abuja? Lagos has d beaches. No amount of govment fundin or any miracle can make an Abj resident 2 know d taste of d ocean..In sumary, ask Dangote dat question and he might tell u he loves 2 live in abuja, but he wuld also tell u he definitely wants 2 work in lagos. Where d BUSINESS is!

I just moved to Abuja after 3 years in Lagos and I can tell you I'm enjoying Abuja better than I did Lagos, especially going to work.

The night life is very slow compared to Lagos but the landscape is picturesque and  the environment beautiful and therapeutic. On the overall, I prefer here to Lagos.

Nawa oooo for this yeah topic ??

But to say the fact, let's consider the similarities between lagos and Abuja.

Lag was once the F.C.T, but Now it is Abuja. lets thank God for awarding the most populated and congested state an amiable Governor who understand the situations better, study the problems with an instant attempt with thorough monitoring for efectiveness of the mega city.

Neither Abuja, Nor Lagos, let's wait and see, Lagos past glory will soon be restored very soon,

The inhabitatnts of Abuja will soon migrate to Lagos, for it is always @ the centre in everything.

hey,i've lived in both ABJ and LAG for 7 years each.my base in abuja-maitama  and my base in lagos-VGC.these are d definitions-

ABJ--city of naira, city of big men, city of politics, city of chubby kids, city of green grasses and broad roads, hot spots include-Millennium park, jabi park, ceddi plaza, wonderland, suya hq, etc

LAG--city of hustle,city of big boys,city of hold-up,city of pretty chicks,eye-opener city, hot spots include-silverbird galleria,alpha/Lekki/kuramo/bar beach,why me?,the palms a.k.a shoprite,slicks,KJ,and some other lil' hot joints!

meeeeeen,ABUJA wins in  serenity, beauty and security but no one would like to live in a place as dull as a graveyard, come on guys,we are young and full of fresh blood, shayo and hustle must dey happen 24/7,after all,na only one life we get,so we go make and enjoy our money to d fullest 4,

LAGOS CITY

Abuja maybe better, but now Abuja is gradually dying,After El-rufai left nothing concrete happened to Abuja but what is happening in Lagos is wonderful.

Lagos is also the commercial capital of Naija

Pls. . . . . go ahead and humor me - tell me absolutely EVERYWHERE in ABJ is serene, peaceful, naturally beautiful and crime-free; and while you're at it, tell me EVERYWHERE in Lagos is the exact opposite!

On Esther day i was wondering where to chill out to, i think of many place to catch the

fun like; beach, silverbird galleria, e-center, nu metro cineman and there is a lot of

show and parties i was just lost in midst of fun all that nite i wonder if there is room for

all this in FCT. as far as i know abuja is over-populated as a country capital is councern

and it should not be that way, we all want to live in abuja wht abt, portharcourt, kano,

ibadan, lagos.

i was born in lagos and i lived most of my life in MUSHIN aka moonshine

You folks know nothing, abuja being the country capital does not make it a beter place

to dwel, ve being to abuja b4 i only admire the enviroment ,but i dnt feel like living

there. i love lagos the way it is. people make more money in lagos than abuja, the only

money u can make in abuja is government money.

you can imagine americans prefer los angelis, new york and chicago than washington

@Ruudie, I clearly am not saying there is no crime in Abuja, so I dont see where you are getting that from.

Relatively speaking Abuja is a safer city than Lagos. That is what I am saying and many Abuja residents who have once lived in lagos say the same.

I will take the word of people who have both lived in Lagos and Abuja over someone who has spent all his life in Lagos.

It is common knowledge that Lagos is one of the most dangerous cities in Nigeria. There is crime in Abuja, ofcourse, but in no way like that of Lagos.

I think anyone who claims otherwise is in serious denial, lol

0
Avatar
Newbie

@Ruudie, its true, a person can go out in Abuja and 2am and be safe. Even people who live in Abuja will tell you the same, I was told that time and again by Abuja residents. There is crime in Abuja, but its generally safe, unless you are a politician, lol

I never felt unsafe in Abuja, even at night (pricelss if you ask me). Yet I feel unsafe in Lagos in the daytime.

What are you talking about? LA and NY are much more comparable than Abuja to Lagos.

0
Avatar
Newbie

I guess its like comparing NewYork and LA.

One is all day everyday bustle with no space and the other one bustles but not so much though it has the best crazy-expensive housing.

Depending on what you really like, you choose one or the other as they are very different.

Abj is both 4 d common man and d rich. its all about planning. food crops like yam, potato, onions, tomato abound @ relatively cheap prices. transportation is cheap and luxurious. its only in Abj that one can pick a drop for as low as 150naira(equivalent of bike fare to some places in lagos). the average fare for a drop in lagos is 1,500naira.Therefore, in Abj drop is accessible to everybody but not so in lagos. HOUSING- In Abj, everywhere is highbrow hence u get good value for your rent. but in lagos, people pay heavily to live in delapidated buildings and collapse prone houses. SECURITY- The common man in abj could wake up by 2.30am and go about his lawful business. In lagos, he does so at his own peril.

nice one @Ferrari: ABUJA IS A NEW CITY AND ENJOYS THE PRESENCE AND BACKING OF THE FG.

most of d posters are not really nailing d nail on d head, d Q is where do you prefer to work or to live?

Lagos is surely the best to work for starters and middle class, unless U r a politician and no doubt Abuja is the best to live, thats if U have enough cash, and most importantly have enough business ventures in Lagos, PH, etc.

I wish to live in ABJ also, when my business venture has grown well enough that my presence wont be needed as such in Lagos, but before then, NA LAGOS ALL THE WAY. 4get the traffic, etc. With God's blessing U can choose when to move around, thats if U r self employed sha!

0
Avatar
Newbie

lagos any day for me, but lets be factual Abja is a new city and enjoys the presence and backing of the FG.

lets not forget that the FG literally dumped lagos while moving to Abuja, also lagos is the hope of most poor nigerians looking for jobs or a start so people keep pouring into lagos for all other states thus the over-population.

if all the people in Ojota alone move to abuja am sure most of u guys will change ur views, and from what have heard most of the regular peeps in Abuja including those screaming here on NL stay in villages and outskirts like Kubwa etc

and from what i recently heard u need to leave ur abode in kubwa btw 5-5.30am to make it to abuja town around 8pm, so what are we not talikng,

so if u live in ikoyi and work on the island u enjoy same traffic situation compared to who lives in maitam and works in abuja,

Eko o ni Baje!!!

Abuja is the better city. I dont like the constant hustle and bustle of Lagos at all. I prefer a more mellow place. Abuja gives that. Even with all the Lagos night life, you take your life into your hands by being out at night all the time.

In some ways Lagos itself stops you from enjoying Lagos.

0

You've said it there man. . . . thats all Lag needs and even you ABJ peeps will be impressed!

Inspite of the many ills, the hustle, the bustle, the difficulties. . . . . . Can't see myself anywhere else but Lagos!

I've done time up the dry, dusty north, down the wetlands of the south-south, the eroded, red mud of the deep east; tasted the different lifestyles - but none compares to life in Lag!

When i went to ABJ, nice place - but didn't wait to hear the last of what i was there for, took my bags and bailed. . . . . darn expensive! If you have to travel a lot of places in 1 day in that city, you'd need to have a ride to survive. . . . it was a far from pleasant experience!

@ mahabone

''eko atlantic will wrestle the title from abuja'' wishful thinking! even FASHOLA knows its not possible for lagos to catch up with abj. he just wants to restore a little sanity. where do you start? first, you must ask d whole residents to evacuate for a year.then you embark on massive demolition of all houses in lagos starting from OJOTA. while demolition is ongoing, roads will be expanded and reconstructed with pedestrian walkways and underground drainage. flowers and green trees will also be planted  simulteanuosly.many lands will be revoked and converted to parks and gardens. Ajegunle, obalende, oworoshoki, okokmaiko and other slums will be turned to green areas. estates will now be redesigned and all new allottees required to have very low fences and a horticultural touch in front of the houses. mad men , beggars, touts , area boys , bike men will be banned. half of the population will have to go. Even bank phb will agree that all these are impossible to be done. ABJ is it.

lets go scientific and factual. mr. x  lives in ogba and he wakes up by 4am to go to work at highbrow VI. he spends 3hrs in a rickety bus  due to traffic and gets to d office by 8am. work ends by 4 but mr . x can only get back home at 10pm.he decides to hang out @ allen avenue. its 11.30 pm and mr x doesn"t have a car. imagine it.

mr. y lives in gwarinmpa(the biggest estate in west Africa) and works in maitama(choicest place in NIGERIA) .he wakes up by 7.30am and takes a drop @ 300naira.he gets to the office b4 8am.At the close of work by 4pm, he retires to his house b4 4.30pm. he has some sleep and decides to hang out by 7pm. unlike a lagosian,  mr. y has d option of cooling off first in any of the luxurious gardens or parks close to his residence. Thereafter he can proceed  to d red  light district @ area11. By 12 midnight, mr y can just stroll out of red light district and take a drop of 250 naira to any of d numerous nite clubs in Wuse 2, Maitama,or Asokoro. No touts, no area boys and no opc. its all street lights, green trees and flowers. Abj doesnt go to bed. its like LAS VEGAS @ night. little wonder everyone is now running to ABJ to stage big events. talk of d MTV MAMA awards, thisday awards, hip hop awards, and now MTV Nigeria sings. ABJ is it.

I prefer Abuja to Lagos. Abuja is really nice and it is a well organized place. Lagos is too congested and full of rowdiness. I was in Abuja some years ago and the place was really lovely. One city that has failed to live up to its potential is Ibadan. It should be Nigeria's Houston or Nevada. Now that Adedibu is dead, I hope the ancient city will take its place among the best cities in Nigeria and Africa.

1st of all the question is Abuja or lagos, where would u like to live? not where in the world would you like to live? i.e for those naming other places.

lagos ? night life? during the week when u have to wake up at 3-4am to get to the office at 8am, then u close for the day at 5-6pm,get home at 10-11pm,i mean, u dont even have time to eat and rest ,i guess that also makes lagos dead too.

pls can u compare to a city where u have to resume work at 8-9am and can still wake up at 7am and still meet up,then make it home before you say jack! please for the regular weekend night thingy

please if you dont have a car in lagos can u get a taxi at 3am when u need to change clubs? i dont think so cos u could get robbed while waiting,no security! somebody said you can work in lag ,earn 40k,drink and pay hookers, what do i call dat? poverty? i didnt just say that. i bet people saying lag is better haven't been to abj.my opinion.

0
Avatar
Newbie

But you know why i like lag?Wit that your small 40k salary you go drink well plus carry 500naira prosties still pay house rent.

0
Avatar

@shawn, Lol, I swear abuja make sense die! I no min to dey fly enter ph weekends cos lets face it i am also a p-towner for life, lol
