Is It Too Dangerous To Travel To The East?

Hi Everyone

I have really been looking forward to go to nigeria on christmas and to enjoy my stay in the village of my husband.

But lately he is not so sure if he should take me along agian, since there has been a lot of kidnapping and he does not want to risk anything.

I am really upset and I would be very sad if I couldnt go to enjoy chirstmas in nigeria just because of some crazy kidnappers.

What do you think, is it really too dangerous for a white woman to go to anambra state (flying to port harcourt) these days or do you think that what we hear over here in europe is exagerated?

Thank you for your reply, I am curious to see what you say,

Bleep you Naughty Person. I will always tell the truth. Whether SA has crimes or not, SA is hundred times better than Nigeria. Tell me how many South Africa dieing to go to Nigeria? None but Nigeria is dieing to run SA. So shut you hole.

Yes, If they have allowed people who from there that had travel recently, or based in Anambra state to respond to the question it would have been better and more accurate.

So being in anambra doesnt count for anything?

out of the tons of names out there to use, he used his people?

Play dumb if you want.

dude I met him in anambra, he has family there, he was not performing or nothing, it just that he hides it for some odd reason.

I believe u dont even live abroad like I, what Black person would name their child chimeze? when few can pronounce it?

@Ovie, will you with immediate effect shut up that your mouth. Are you from the village or something? Your own don too much. This is the same thing they said about SA,  crime this crime that as if when you go there you will be shot on arrival, on my several visits low and behold nothing do me.

Putting fear in people body, i no go pass Woman talk.

Honestly, i am new in this forum but i am not impressed with the kind of insultive utterances being made by some forumites. I believe that this is a respectable forum formed with good intent and should have matured members that can contribute odjectively on issues raised and not where immature indviduals should come and display ill manners. Sequel to this, i hereby suggest that the calibere of people in this forum should be assessed by reason of their contributions and where necessary people that do not have anything to offer except vain utterances should be suspended. i stand corrected mr moderator.

stop insulting each other, `what is that for.

I asked a simple question, hoping to recieve a simple answer, what you think of others is not really what i wanted to know.

anyhow, i think i will not be going to nija this xmas, i have talked to my husband again and he reassured me that he does not want to take the risk. i can accept that, he must know better and from what i heard from some of you, his opinion is not just out of the blue,

i am just reallly reallly really hoping that things will get better very sooon, i wanted to bring my mother to nigeria so she can see the places and the family, but if the country is insecure like it is right now, i dont think i will feel good to bring her over, !!!!

@ poster Take security issues very seriously and don't listen to those that cant accept the truth you are the only one with the most to loose.

If anything happens to you i bet you that most people here would not even bother to commiserate with you talk more of helping.

Better Play it safe than have regrets .

Now I do understand while there are many people in Nigeria living another man's life. After reading most of the response, the only three conclusion that came to my mind are these:-

1. Most Nigerians think through their anus.

2. Most still think the way they do when they were 5years old.

3. I pity them.

Concerning the poster, the only advice I will give you is "YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT"

My  Sis. although I am not from the east, but with the terrible and horrible news of kidnapping (regarded as a very lucrative business this days) coming from there almost on daily basis,  I would have prefered that you didn't make the notice of your coming public. You should have carefully planned it with your husband and sneaked in quietly (like Ribadu did) and go back same way after your stay.

But now, you can be sure guys are already looking forward to your coming (not good guys in NL anyway). Anyway don't be scared.

Advise is, pray hard before coming and lie low throughout you stay!

Na every where o!!! Even brodass and sistass dey arrange to get their folks kidnapped, there is no employment, so what do u expect?

If Govt don dey pay militants, make them start to dey think of how to start of a social security deposit in everyone's life, if them no use the money do road, or give us light, make them use am as monthly allowee for every youth (unemployed), old people too, make we see if change no go start

hi everyone

thank you for you replies. Some of you have asked where i plan to go, well I will fly to port harcourt, travel to aba first and than go to usofia. I also wanted to go and see akwa, since i am founding a foundation to help and send kids to school, but it looks like i will have to postpone that all, it is really a pitty and i hope that the government will do something about it!!! At least I am planing to live in nigeria one day,

pls dont think that i have started this thread so people can complain about how bad nigeria is, i couldnt do it. I love the country, the people, the food the music and everything about it, so no mather what people say about nigeria or nigerians,, i have my own opinion. I really just wanted to hear about other people's experiences to help me make up my mind.

Hopefully the lady knows better. After all her husband is an igbo man. People like pres-elect you simply just have to ignore. I mean do you think anything you say can cure that level of ignorance. I did not even read what he wrote before you quoted it. More important things to dwell on that wondering why people's brain reason the way they do.

Haba Platinumnk. Take it easy. LOL. Even if they have never been to the east they read the news and many of them have friends or people they work with that knows someone that knows someone who has been kidnapped in the East. Forget about the tribal issue now. There will be more threads here to iron those out.

0

Let's be honest. Why are we turning it into her tribal thing. If she was not white and the husbands family are quiet people she might be able to pull it off but I would not advice my sister to go at this time. My cousins in Lagos are not sure at this point if they will go to the village for christmas. The fact that she is white makes her a moving target. How many of you saying okay would send your own mothers into a place that you know that she would have a higher risk of being kidnapped than the average person. I think she should try next christmas or many they might do something about this kidnapping thing and she can go for the ikeji festival next year. That is usually fun too.

If its not a matter of life and death dont go o.

Cos Its a matter of just death in the East.

The first n last time <i hope!> i went, some months ago

i was looking around me like a drug addict,

militants, kidnappers, ojujus

abeg. vely vely dangerus.

Why must people invoke tribalism anytime some inconvenient truth is told about them.

Let's tell ourselves the truth, i've been to the East and Niger Delta, the level of crime there is Egregious and i think its something any sincere person of Igbo descent would agree, some people just don't want to take responsibility of their actions but take the easier option of playing the tribal card because they still harbor feelings of revenge.

On the whole Nigeria is not safe again save Abuja largely because of the presence of the Fg.

The North is not safe- Boko Haram and Religious extremists.

The Niger Delta is not safe.

The East is not safe.

Lagos is not safe.

Our country is tottering on the brink of collapse.

Hey baby, don't just bother - your life is worth more than Ten Million Naira ransom.  Good you want to integrate and share your husband's culture but as a 'White lady' you are a MAGNATE to these criminals. Everyone in town will know a white woman is around and these days with Mobile phones, oh baby don't even consider the it.  You gonna put you innocent husband in sh-t.  Your going doesn't worth the stress, please!  As a Nigerian woman myself, I intend to go home this year but my old Dad objected and said please, stay away from the village - they will come after you unless you stay in Abuja and we can all come up there to meet you.  So, you can see how dangerous SOUTH and SOUTH EASTERN Nigerian is, at present.  So don't worry if you couldn't go this time, I'm sure things would improve (because this is not how our country used to be - our leaders have let us down so badly.) and you'd have the opportunity to meet all your husbands people and see how much you're loved because Nigerians, we are friendly and fun loving people and you won't believe it, we love foreigners more than we love ourselves.
