Can An Accountant Become An It Professional?

What do you think sparks the start of an IT career?

I mean what is the entry level like regarding qualifications.

I know a cousin who studied Accounting and is presently doing Comptia A+.

He says he will later go into Networking and get certification with CCNA.

What is the essence of all this certificates when he didn't study Computer science or Engineering.

Can he make a career in Information technology?

@ topic: very possible

It depends on your area of interest; just like accounting, some peeps do not like the Audit aspect/ Tax.

You can venture into Web design/programming; DBM; Networking; engineering etc

Mate,

Yes, of course!

I am a CIMA finalist, Cisco Security Expert, CCNA and MCSE with hardware skills (building computers) as well as a Private Pilot (PPL), having learnt to fly in a Cessna 150, 172 and Piper Arrow PA-28 fixed wing aeroplanes.

The essence of it all for me is a keen interest in systems accounting, computers, inter-networking and flying.  I can't see anything wrong with cross-training for the challenge of it, as well as the varied opportunities, added to a great sense of adventure and fun.

Surely, lots and lots of people make a career out of IT by acquiring the necessary certification and practical experience.  Look around and you'll find zillions of examples all over the world.

Being an Accountant and practising IT is reality. As I speak to you now, I attended a presentation on payroll from a software company and behold the facilitator is a chartered accountant and the software developer. Why is just that all ledgers, trial balances and all accounting functions are understood by this guy and he has acquired a lot of software skills to enable him develop accounting software. Honestly people must discover themselves early enough.
