A person’s business card can be considered one of the most important marketing tools that he has. With it, you are giving you contact information to potential clients or existing customers to make them loyal. In order for the business card to do its desired job, it must be professional, attractive and memorable.

This can be certainty if you make sure you follow a set of rules. For starters, your logo must be simple and symbolic to your company’s services and the industry that is associated with. Placing your website and email is a must. People will be searching for a website where to look for more information about you and your business and also for an email if they want to contact you. If you’re missing these two, you would better keep the cards to yourself, cause handing them to people would be useless.

It is important for your card to be attractive and memorable. Try to think about the fact that some people receive hundreds of business cards from various individuals and they rarely remember any of them. Making your business card memorable is really important. I ve several tesifiers whom tells me about how there metallic complimentry/name/call/business card made them outstand. so i taught to myself ARAMIDE why nt tell nairalanders what an outstanding complimentry card cld do for them 1)when u give ur business card 2 ur client despite several cards they ve in there wallet once ur service is required ur card will OUTSTAND 2)ur card speaks of ur quality & class of service 3) its a great weapon of marketing 4) it attract attention& showcases personality. Below are samples of metallic cards& how it looks after printed on. enquires call 09090030295

I am an electrical engineer and involved in the Building Services engineering industry. My job entails working with technicians to provide electrical fittings and electricity to buildings(mostly industrial and commercial buildings). The pay is not so good cos expatriates get the job and outsource it to us. I enjoy the job but my eyes are open to other vistas. I also enjoy the art of interpreting schematics correctly and spotting mistakes.

I'm a Patent Attorney with a background in electrical engineering and I represent clients with intellectual property. If you need help with writing, licensing, prosecuting, and analyzing patents, trademarks and copyrights in the US, look me up.

I deal with patents involving electronics, touch pads, LCDs, LEDs, computer algorithm modules, protocols, semiconductor devices and structures, communication devices, transmitters, receivers, phase interpolators, coding schemes, system designs, medical devices, mechanical devices etc

I can pretty much prosecute everything except chemical and biological arts.

I am afraid you yourself need consultants before you can start consulting and advising anyone.

Or at worst invest in these:

It would do you a world of good.

'Of course' you are? Who do you consult to?

Are you sure you want to hear the reason I am asking, because in this kind of situation, there is only one way I can deliver that answer and is effing harsh.

good thread, people should learn to network more often and not just look out for job ads.

That asides, this thread should be very useful for individuals who have a few questions or two about a certain industry they are planning to get their foot in.

This thread should be made a sticker!

Interesting thread reading about the variety of jobs out there. I am a Secondary teacher in a UK school and I love what I do. What I love about my jobs is that no two days are the same. I like the challenge of managing pupils' behaviour, supporting them in their learning and communicating with parents about their children's progress and above all I get paid a decent wage for doing something I enjoy! The downside of the job is dealing with difficult pupils and feeling helpless with pupils whom you genuinely want to help but who don't care because they think they know better. There is also the increase in the admin/paper work that gets in the way of teaching - those in education here would understand more what I mean.

I am in to sales of unique telecommunication products that saves myself and people money in making both local and international calls.

I find it very easy to reach out to customers because my services are cheap and saves them money.

I make money from the calls my customers make and the size of my income depends on the number of phones i have supplied to customers.

With over 500 phones being sold to customers, you get to make about half a million in a month from just the calls they make.

I love my job because it's stress free!

Hey jay bee,

Thanks for the stuff.

Good thing I asked for it as my investment bank employers have been slammed out by the credit crunch debacle.

I have had to look for a new role and guess what, the role I have been offered is in Strategic Planning using Balanced Scorecard to align business activities to the strategy of the organization and monitor organization performance against strategic goals.

What coincidence?

Cheers.

My JOB!!

Well, i was employed as an admin officer in a private company a year & seven months ago. But right now, i act as the admin officer, finance officer, the accountant, the secretary and even the P.A. to my boss. Infact, i could be called "Jack of all trade".

I was enjoying my job but no longer as its becoming combersome by the day.

Am resigning very very soon for my dream job,

My job entails me talking to people and trying to solve their problems. Its interesting cos no two days are the same but can be frustrating when u get difficult, rude and arrogant people who want you to bend co policies cos they are 'all that'.it pays ok,easy hrs but looking to go into hr in the nearest future so my present jos affords me the flexiblity to study for that.all in all i enjoy what i do which i guess is the bottomline.

Hi,

I am into Corporate/Casual wears but I specialised in meeting the clothing needs of busy workers in Nigeria who cannot go to the market or botique to shop for their clothes, because of the very busy nature of the job they do, we get them delivered to their offices and make them shop conveniently that is why I recently resigned my former appointment although its promising to work as a Secretary to an MD of a company, but I wanted to appoint myself to work for myself and meet people needs thereby bringing smiles to people faces and so far I have been enoying my JOB!!!.

Hi I am back to talk to myself as there is no one to help me on this matter. Yah! the issues is this, even corporate organisations do not key into their Job Description for several reasons. Lack of focus is key amongst many of their distractions. They want money and sometimes from any quarters, which make the to overflog their staff with undue resposibities. This is killing as it does not make the employee resourceful enough to deliver maximally.

Professionally, it could be said that we live in an uncoordinated career environment.

more to come latter

Not very technical depending on what you are reporting on. For me, the data i use is normally put together by a little data manipulation, random data sampling, database activity reports and basic statistical calculations in excel to feed into a bigger picture which in turn is turned into a monthly metrics. I normally produce one first week of every month (I am about to start on July's figures).

As for balance scorecard, i don't deal with such directly but we do have a performance and monitoring department at my workplace and i think its used for strategic planning and management system to align business activities to the vision and strategy of the organization, improve internal and external communications, and monitor organization performance against strategic goals.

I can send you an example of a balance scorecard if u wish sha.

0
Avatar
Newbie

Hi Jay bee,

Thanks. I am not a the moment executing any performance work, I am just trying to build knowledge for my own sake.

It is not like if there is a pertinent work I have to complete.

From the little you have put, I guess it might be very technical what your knowledge base is. I am slowly trying to build a more high level knowledge like a Balanced Scorecard implementation.

Thanks anyway.

0
Avatar
Newbie

I might also be able to help ya on the performance metrics.

What targets/success are you trying to measure?

Does it have anything to do with statistics alas showing the results with graphical representation?

Sweetheart, if your hear anything like "investment banking" at the moment, my advice to you is to run like Carl Lewis except you are looking for redundancy.

Jejely stay in your safe environment for the next one year at least before you consider that switch.

The flow is:

Strategy Development --------> Implementation ----------> Performance measurement

I have done a bit of the first 2 phases and have a good understanding of them, so I am trying to build knowledge in the third phase to complete the toolbox.
