How Much is a Good Salary in Nigeria?

As a sole proprietor, I entered business with the initial goal of making as much money as I would have gained if I was a University graduate earning a 'good salary'. Unfortunately, I have never been in the job market, so I have no idea what a good salary is!

So I need your help. What kind of salaries are graduates earning in various industries (banking, IT, consulting, et cetera)? What constitutes a 'good salary' in Nigeria, especially the Lagos area? I want to know so I can set a definite monthly income target. Thanks.

Our law makers can do good by passing a law that will set a bench mark for all levels other than the minimum wage in collaboration with labor union. So if a sole proprietor employs say a B.Sc holder and is expected to pay N80,000/month on the mininmum and goes on to pay a naira short; the contry's labor union being the enforcer of the law is supposed to have a representative(anonymous) in all registered companies across the country who informs labor on the condition of pay. Thereby such employer can be queried and can. either rightly(with severance pay) terminate all the B.Sc holders he's employed and go for lower certifications for his capacity or review their pay to standard. But this is in a country where things work properly, BTW a million miles walk starts with a step. Let's start walking,we never can tell. (I.e My opinion)

I begin to wondered while we negnect those working under one man or privite limited companies, are they not Nigerian? Are they not university graduate? are they not intelligent? Most of them receive less than #20,000/ month as total salary, especially those working in private schools.

Pls how can we help these people out? because we have thesame

certificates.

Help somebody today as God will open windows of heaven for your sake.

Your contribution can change somebodies life.

God bless u as u contribute.

Salary will never be enough and there is nothing like good salary. I say this because a good salary is one that suits your needs and you are able at least to save something,. Now our needs vary from person to person depending on the kind of lifestyle you live.

High earners have got a high standards of living and their spending habits are more while low earners have lower standards of living. Is not a surprise to see people who earn 6 figure salaries in debts even before the month is over. Some have mortgages to pay, entertainment, bills of about half their salaries e.t.c they spend all their salaries on this and have little to save.

So good salary is where you spend and at least save something regardless of the amount you get.

^^

As has been severally rehashed on this thread, the industry and not the job determines salary in Nigeria.

An IT Manager in a bank would not necessarily earn more or less than another manager working in, say, Treasury.

A good salary is really difficult to determine as this in mine own opinion will depend on individual understanding and economy, in Europe at the moment cleaners get about 1000 to 1300 depend on the company but at graduate level should be around a minimum of 2800 euro depending on the profession i know a guy who is a security guard earning 1800 monthly but don't forget that you earn in hard currency you also spend in hard currency too.

Thank you my friend. I will definetely look into that prospect. I have not forgotten the greasy part of Naija culture. Corruption is in every country however, Naija have it wide open. Institutional Corruption. Regardless, I love my country. I definetely have to be around to run a school up to the standard that I envisage. Eyan o kin gbe okere mo dundun obe. I will hope to have school that will prepare kids for a better future. Thanks again for your contribution.

I am not so worried about making crazy profit. I just want a school that will be affordable and make a difference in the lives of these kids. My house is in Ikorodu (PZ Industrial Area) Why is getting a license a big deal? Is it due to bribery and corruption or the process streamline.

Yeah, you are correct. I wasn't especially thinking of those places.

0
Avatar
Newbie

i think it depends oh!

Places like sango ota, ikorodu, mowe and all those new settlements still need good schools.

Just that i cant say much about the income bracket of those living there.

Very saturated, I must tell you. Plus getting a license nowadays is not a piece of cake again.

@Tanimola: Thanks again.na wao things have really changed in Nigeria. When do we start cooking with N4000. People are really strugling. I tried to imagine someone earning N50k a month with 2 kids and extended family wahala. You have really opened my eyes to what the situation is in Nigeria. The last time I was in Nigeria was in 2000 which is about 12 years ago.May God answer our prayers and spear the less fortunate amongst us. Thank you once again. Only God knows tomorrow. Our tomorrow in Nigeria will be bright and fufilling.

Oga you are loaded O. 26Milla is not easy O.

Some arithmetic:

2k Dollars=260,000 say 1 dollar=130

Food:

2 pots of soup every week=4000*4

Bag of rice, beans, garri, salt, pepper=max 30,000

Clothes:

Some of us don't really shop every month.

You=25,000, wife=20,000, kids=20,000

Fuel:

20,000 for generator

30,000 for your motor

Gas:

Not too expensive. Say 11, 000

DSTV Cable:

40,000 should get you a number of quality channels. But you first need to buy the decoder and all. These are additional one off costs.

Recharge Card:

Monthly: you-2000x4, your madam-1500x4, your kids-500x2x4 (they must learn how to manage. This is not America)

Say N219,000=1684,6 dollars. Please go over the arithmetic and correct any errors in computation.

It should not be too far away from the above if you and your family can avoid extravaganza. Other things like soap, air fresher and the likes won't cost more than 50K. Patapata add 500$ to 2000$ and you should be almost fine.

Speak to asset managers like ARM and co. I won't say you should just put your cash in the stock market.

3M and 1M can get them into very nice schools. British International Secondary School and co don't cost more than 2.5milla per year. There are many others that cost less than 1 milla per year and they are very good.

@Tanimola: Thanks for the response. To your question, the answer is NO. My big girl will be 18 and my little girl will be around 12 years. I plan to set aside N1m for my little girl school and N3m for my big girl. The $2000 will be for living expenses like food, clothing, gas for cars and power generator, cable tv, cell phones and other minor stuff. No personal driver, No housemaid. Do you now think that $2000 will be enough for living expenses.I plan to invest in stock and maintain a money market account of about N26m. My friends are telling me not to come back to Nigeria because of the issues that the country is going through. I love my country and must come back home.

look at the figures again, this time slowly, then try some common sense and you may be able to see that the question is not needed afterall.

Is that a year or monthly salary?

0

with subsidy removed

driver - 60-80k

housemaid/cook 30-50k

0

driver - N30k to N40k

maid - N10k to N20k

cook - N10k to N30k

per month.

Depends on the status of the employer.

Hello,

I currently live in Italy and am looking where to move to when I leave here.

Sorry to interupt the thread, but I was looking at salary info and have a couple of questions

1 - is the internet reliable?

2 - is it possible to get unlimited phone contracts to the UK?

3 - iS the area safe?  Apologies I have been looking randomly at many countries and do not know much about any!

4 - I would still be earning money from the UK - what is the level of tax?  I might pay tax in  Nigeria if it is less.

5 - I would want to rent an apartment - what sort of price would a nice 3 bed cost?

thank you

Sorry for interupting the thread!
