How Promising Is The Future Of A Banker?

Regarding work as a banker in nigeria (marketing sector) i know what entry level salaries are from a post a read here on NL but i'd like to know what its like a year or two after entry. i know in banking one can look forward to promotions but how often is that?

Also a friend of mine took the CBN recruitment test in march and still is wondering about results. Does anyone have any news on that pls?

THANKS

The problem is multi-cated:

1.Most bankers don't have a life because they spend their life for the bank

2.Most banks do not have good staff welfare

3.The regulator (CBN et al) never worked at the lower level in a commercial bank,so they don't have a fell of the issues abating the industry because the bottom of the pyramid is the most critical

4.You do not really see many if any bank graduate working in banks.You can give what you don't have.Even if I read history and work in a bank,please train me.

5.The bank's are too competitive with little cooperation for the good of the economy e.g:

No central credit rating monitoring body which checks the credit status of customers.

No single location in nigeria having a form of industrial area as we have in agbara for manufacturing coys

No proper checks on even the staff being employed,you see a staff who had criminal record in bank A but within months get a bumper offer from bank B based on fresh lies he provides durin interview.the loser in this case would be the CUSTOMERs this dude might defraud next and remember the customer only remembers the bank not the staff

BOTTOM-LINE

Customer service is dead in most banks

No uniformity of operation in any single bank.

Bank marketing in nigeira is emotional (who u know) not professional (what u have in your brains)

ALL THESE BREED STRESS on the innocent banker but remember that the banking industry is still the pivotal employer of labour in nigeria

Banking is a cool profession, but like most other things in Nigeria it has been basterdised. Basically, talking about the pressure on bank staffs for huge deposits. But come to think of it, if you own a business too and you pay your staff salaries (good one for that matter) you'll most likely want them to deliver. the expectection of Bank Ogas is just like that and if well measured may be comensurate to the cash that flows from their treasuries to Bank staff month in, month out. If na u nko?

People in the industry knows they need the money, that's why they stay and pls don't blame them. If you have a better offer for anyone of them or an offer a bit lesser, i believe they won't mind. But for now just leave things as they are.

The future of a banker depends on him. To get to the top, he must be patient, not rushing, he must have simple eye, not extravagant. He must invest in himself (upgrade mentally) on a regular basis.

@Topic,

The Future isn't that bright for people aspiring to be career bankers(using that term).

The best is to work there for a while and move on. . .I work in a new generation bank and I hope to get out latest next year ending.

not all banks are the same, i believe it first of all starts with management of that bank and the mindset of the people. some banks are still good and worth working in, trust me, it depends on what u enjoy doing and what u find urself doing in the bank.

@Lizarazo,please tell them o.

Am very sure that those criticizing banker or bank workers as the case may be are jobless or just sitting down somewhere wondering what its like to work in a bank.

My advise,please look for something doing instead of wasting your time.

The future of a banker? Well, I used to work for Zenith Bank then. On the bus from Gbagada to Ajose Adeogun, right in VI, I will see some oyibo's jogging. Yes jogging for life. Meanwhile I've been robbed of sleep which I slug out with the uncomfortable condition and knowledge that am not going to sleep.

I don't even think of the immediate discomfort then. I think of sudden heart attack at the age of 50. Haba! Bank job? In fact all bank M.D.s' should do the retailing, marketing etc themselves.

I wanna live a good life like the oyibo's.

Period!
