‘You are sociable, stress-resistant and well-educated? Forget about it! And delete it from the summary because these words already mean nothing to recruiters and irritate them’ – the head of the research center advises. Specialists of this center interviewed 500 HR managers about what words in the resume of job seekers cause them negative emotions. According to survey results, recruiters who are irritated by nothing in the summary are in little number than those who found that to insert into the list of stop words: 41% and 35% respectively. 18% of personnel officers said that they are irritated by not specific phrases, but mistakes and the wrong execution of the summary, another 6% — found it difficult to answer.

First of all, it is worth looking at your CV of the words ‘sociable’ and ‘stress-resistant’ and to remove them: 14% and 13% of respondents who have claimed to a lexicon of the summary call these words senseless and worn out. Personnel officers explain in questionnaires of a poll, as candidates often don't understand the value of these determinations.

‘Not to call, not to disturb, not to offer…’ – these words on the third place (9%) of the anti-rating. The expert explains that the job seeker, apparently, only tries to protect himself from uninteresting offers (for example, from recruitment agencies or offers with small salaries) or inconvenient methods of interaction (refusing to communicate, for example, by phone and agreeing only to correspondence on e-mail), and recruiters see the doubt in their qualification and the lack of confidence in their working experience. On the fourth place is ‘easily learning ability’. To such formulation, 7% of personnel officers have claimed. ‘Specially the phrase about easy learning ability raises questions in the resume of specialists with very long work experience’ — HR specialists emphasize.

‘I want/like/have…’ – be accurate with these verbs. ‘I love people, but after all, I like cats little more’, ‘I have the individual car and two children’, ‘I want to work’ – these phrases are harmless only. At first sight, recruiters (5%) see in them the redundant information or an unsuccessful method to be allocated.

The phrase ‘I am the best/I am able to do everything’ is in the sixth place of anti-rating with 4% of voices of personnel officers. There is nothing better than the candidate who can do a lot of things, but at a stage of employment, the reality is necessary: what can the job seeker do? And the manager has to make a conclusion about uniqueness and high quality of the candidate.

‘The salary not less/a big salary’ – these phrases recruiters advise to replace with specific figure in the special field of the summary, which is called ‘Salary expectations’. ‘Presentable appearance’, ‘owning of office equipment’ and ‘responsibility’ collected 2% of votes of the indignant recruiters. ‘It makes a sense to refer to unearthly beauty, only if you apply for vacancies in show business.’ Experts give several pieces of advice how not to spoil reputation, communicating by phone with the headhunter. 47% of recruiters complain of playful, banal and just silly phrases in the summary. Delete them from your resume if your purpose is to find a dream job quick.

Recruiters usually work with a large number of the summaries. Therefore, they can be irritated even with trifles: incorrectly chosen font and illiterate formatting. ‘In the CV, everything should be beautiful: both the purposes and logic of a statement, and registration.’ The lack of well-expressed request can push away recruiters from your summary. Many people consider that the main thing is to tell about the experience and achievements, to specify former places of employment and positions, and to leave the choice of suitable vacancy at the discretion of the recruiter.
